Projects / Project 2 - Ski Area Expansion Plan
In another team project, I prepared an oral presentation and written paperin in response to a theoretical request for proposal for a ski area expansion.
"Big POW Mountain Ski Area is seeking qualified analysis of this new terrain, a comprehensive Avalanche Safety Plan that includes an Avalanche Risk Assessment for operations beginning winter ‘19/’20. This body of work will ultimately be integrated into the ski area’s operational plan.
Our goals for this expansion project include providing hike-to access to new, advanced and expert (single and double black diamond) terrain while maintaining the highest level of safety for our visitors and staff."

In completing this project, I learned the following key skills:
-
Understanding the avalanche problem in a specific area and how it can be mitigated using active and passive control methods
-
Thoroughly reviewing explosives usage in avalanche terrain, including the applicability of different explosives (ANFO, Pentolite, etc) and delivery techniques
-
Creating a terrain atlas and avalanche mitigation routes
-
Making a forecasting and communication plan for snow safety workers
-
Establishing a budget for the new area
-
Formulating a plan for infrastructure, vehicles and personnel needed for the expansion.
